If at Gibraltar Airport, roads crossing the runway and vehicles must waiting for the plane passing, but at this airport, the runway is cut by the railroad tracks. Who should wait? Train or Plane?

Gisborne Airport is a small regional airport located on the western outskirts of Gisborne, East Coast of the Northern Island of New Zealand. This service is one of the few airports in the world that has a railway line that cuts the runway. Gisborne Airport which covers 160 acres land area has three grass runways and one major runway intersects with Palmerston North - Gisborne Railway Line.
Wynyard Airport, in the north-west coast of Tasmania, also has a railway crossing on the runway but declining rail traffic forced the closure of railway traffic in early 2005, and thus the rail in Wynyard airport had not been used.

But at Gisborne Airport, rail is still actively used and so are its airport used daily between 6:30 am to 8:30 pm. Afterthat, the runway was closed until morning. Railroads cut almost in the middle of the runway and very often trains or aircraft that stopped until one of them passed. This is a very challenging task for the airport authority to manage the traffic route intersecting runway rail operations that have their own schedule of departure and arrival.

The airport is the main link to enter the small area Gisborne and hosted more than 60 domestic flights. More than 150,000 airline passengers through this airport every year.
